This essay is split into two parts: the first part--this part--explains why there is no substantial overlap between fascism and communism. This part is likely to be frustrating for many people for two reasons. First, it says nothing new; ultimately, I'll argue that although there may be some surface similarities between the two, the two ideologies are not substantially similar.
